Stony Creek Best Bet – Cadboll
We have to wait until the final race of the day when the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Cadboll resumes off an 11-month spell. The three-year-old colt out of Under the Louvre had broken his maiden at Sale prior to his debut, and this looks like a dash and grab job from the stable. On that day, he settled midfield with cover and managed to run on strongly to get the bob in on the line. He draws barrier two at Stony Creek and despite needing to lug 63kg first-up from a long spell he looks a clear best bet of the day (Bet with Sportsbet betting). Michael Poy will need a touch of luck at a crucial point, but if the pair are afforded that luck, then Cadbool should be too good for this lot.
Next Best Bet at Stony Creek – Raid The Bar
The Sharyn Trolove-trained Raid The Bar had strung together consecutive wins together before running into subsequent Bagot Handicap winner Tigertiger at Sandown on December 22. The four-year-old son of Rebel Raider had been winning races like these before heading into town and with the 1.5kg claim of Celine Gaudray looks a good bet in the second leg of the quaddie. With both of his wins in his career coming on firmer decks, he sure to appreciate the conditions presented to him on Tuesday. From barrier six with 62.5kg on his back, look for Gaudray to roll forward and dictate terms from the beginning. In a race bereft of early speed, he should get the race run to his liking and should prove too hard to run down over 2100m.
Best Value Bet at Stony Creek – Strikeout
Having run a nice second at Traralgon two starts back, we are hoping the Sharyn Trulove-trained Strikeout can go one better at Stony Creek. It was a horror run at Sale last time out on December 19 where he simply did not handle the Heavy going, so getting back to a firmer deck can only benefit his chances. The four-year-old son of Jimmy Creed has form behind recent metro winner Pitchanun and as he showed at Traralgon he has suitable turn of foot to take a race out like this. From barrier 10, we expect Will Gordon to go forward on the bay gelding and if he can reproduce the type of effort he showed two back, then Strikeout could be one to follow at a big price with Australian betting sites.
