Stony Creek Races 28th December Preview

The week of racing in Victoria kicks off with an eight race card at Stony Creek, where a meeting will be held at the track for the first time since the 8th of March this year. With the track coming up as a Good 4 and with the rail in the true position we look set for a competitive card of racing in Victoria’s South East.

The first at Stony Creek is set to jump at 1pm AEDT.

Best BetRace 5 – Tovolo Gap (#3) $2.35 with Sportsbet

Fresh off a close up second at Moe just a fortnight ago, the Peter Moody trained Tovolo Gap comes to this Stony Creek Class 1 third up and ready to go one better. The only other time Tovolo Gap has raced third up was last campaign, and it was when she broke through for her maiden win on the Pakenham synthetic. She seemingly does her best work on dry going, and having drawn the rails here at Stony Creek she looks well placed to bring up career win number two. She maps to settle on the back of the leaders heels and if afforded a bit of luck when straightening the Moody and Jason Benbow combination look hard to go past in the first leg of the quaddie.

Next BestRace 4 – La Zola (#2) $2.70 with Sportsbet

The Cindy Alderson trained La Zola looks to be one of the better bets on the Stony Creek card following a close up fourth at Moonee Valley a fortnight ago. The now four-year-old mare comes to this assignment third up, and when running third up in the past she has been quite competitive running into the minor money as well. La Zola looked to be no match for the trifecta at The Valley, but considering she only went down by half a length there, she looks well placed to bring up win number three here. From barrier nine Jamie Mott looks set to go back towards the rear of the field, but considering she possesses a nice turn of foot for this level she prove hard to hold out.

Best ValueRace 8 – Riverdance Lad (#6) $9.00 with Sportsbet

The Robbie Griffiths trained Riverdance Lad looked to have been a touch unlucky when finishing second at Moe after being held up at crucial time. The 40 start veteran will appreciate coming to Stony Creek second up with Nathan Punch retaining the ride they look to be a nice each way play to round out the Stony Creek card. Having drawn barrier four, Nathan Punch will look to settle towards the front half of the field, and if he is afforded a bit of luck early on, he should be fighting out the finish.
