Stony Creek racing preview – Tuesday, February 2
Stony Creek will host its third meeting within the space of five weeks on Tuesday afternoon with eight races to be run and won. The track has come up a Good 4, while the rail will be in the true position for the entire circuit. For a midweek country meeting, it looks to be a highly competitive one. The first at Stony Creek is set to jump at 1:30pm AEDT.
Best Bet: Billie De Lune
After four runner-up performances from eight starts, surely Tuesday is the day for Bille De Lune? Three of those near misses have come this campaign from four runs, so the form suggests she is primed to breakthrough for a maiden victory. She had excuses last start when a drifting favourite at Wangaratta on January 17 where she raced keenly throughout the early stages, hit the front with 300m to go and was left vulnerable late. She’s as consistent as they come in terms of maiden runners, and considering that quinella at Wangaratta put a near three-length gap back to third, she looks the best bet on this Stony Creek card.

Next Best: Fudging
The John Hunter-trained Fudging comes to this BM58 following a close-up fourth at Mornington on December 27. He was beaten by a handy trifecta on that day but meets a small field of six here with a few of them mixing their form of late. From barrier two Celine Guadray should have no issue in getting to the front of the field, and her 3kg claim could be the difference in this 1100m sprint.

Best Value: Make An Effort
Sharyn Trolove’s runner Make An Effort has yet to finish worse than third in her past five runs, including a win at Bairnsdale on November 16. She has been far from disgraced since then and ran to within two lengths of the winner at Moe on January 20 after racing up on speed. From barrier six she maps to race up on speed and may even take up the running, and with Brian Park retaining the ride they could be hard to catch in the third leg of the Stony Creek quaddie.
