Stolen Dance looking for Group 1 breakthrough at new stable

Stolen Dance

QUALITY mare Stolen Dance will be chasing an elusive Group One victory from new quarters when she embarks on what is likely to be her final campaign.

The daughter of Alamosa has been ever the bridesmaid thus far at the top level and a broodmare career is beckoning the rising six-year-old.

“She’s in work with us and we’ll see how she goes, but she is likely to go to stud this spring,” said Andrew Forsman, who is preparing Stolen Dance at Cambridge with Murray Baker.

“She has had a change of ownership with Gerald Shand buying out his partners.”

Formerly trained at Te Rapa by David Greene, Stolen Dance has won nine of her 21 starts including the Gr.2 Cal Isuzu Stakes and the Gr.3 Eagle Technology Stakes.

Her first three cracks at Group One company in the summer of 2016 resulted in consecutive runner-up finishes in the Zabeel Classic, the Thorndon Mile and in the Herbie Dyke Stakes.

Stolen Dance subsequently finished third in the Cal Isuzu last spring before an open handicap success at Tauranga and she was spelled after an unplaced effort in the Thorndon.

“She’s done everything but win a Group One so hopefully all goes well,” Forsman said.

“She’s been in work here for a few weeks and she’s going along well.”

The Hawke’s Bay carnival will offer Stolen Dance opportunities to break through at the top level, with the Captain Cook Stakes at Trentham another possible avenue.
