New Zealand-bred stallion prospect Spieth has been acquired by Aquis Farm.

The son of Thorn Park has won five of his 16 starts from Bryce Heys’ Warwick Farm stable, including the Listed Lightning Handicap (1100m) at Randwick. He is also a two-time Group 1 placegetter.

A decision on whether Spieth will continue racing will be made following a spell.

“There is no leaning either way at this early stage. We’ll give him a break and reassess from there,” Aquis Farm chief executive Shane McGrath said.

“He’s an outcross, has speed and is an outstanding individual. He’s a 10 out of 10 physically and went within a lip of being a Group One winner.

“Race credentials are one thing but physical presence is another and that’s what you want to see. If he produces yearlings that look like himself he’ll make a commercial stallion.”

A $200,000 NZB Premier Sales purchase, he is by champion sire Thorn Park from a half-sister to European Group I winner Ransom O’War and further back we see Group I winner and promising shuttle sire Charm Spirit (IRE).
