Smith Primed For The ’Bool
One of the most well-known Warrnambool-based trainers Lindsey Smith is set for a massive Warrnambool Racing Carnival kicking off on Tuesday morning.
Like many of the local trainers, Smith has a big hand over the carnival with over 25 runners accepted over the next three days at the ‘Bool.
Smith threw out his two best runners over the carnival declaring Sacred Palace in the BM64 on Day 1, and National Guard in the BM64 on Wednesday.
Damien Oliver is booked to ride Sacred Palace in the last event over 1100m on Tuesday afternoon, who is having its first start on Australian soil since coming over from New Zealand. Smith has insisted that if the track has the sting out of the ground, he will be hard to beat.
With the Warrnambool track already rated a Soft 7, and with more rain forecast, the son of Sacred Falls will almost certainly get the conditions he is after.
Since arriving at Lindsey Smith’s stable, National Guard has had two starts for two impressive wins. Including a BM64 on Terang Cup day, when running one of the fastest final 200m splits on the card.
“His last win was that of not a bad horse, he came from an unwinnable position on that day” Smith said.
Smith also made it clear that Riding The Wave is the best of his four runners to go around in Wednesday’s Wangoom Handicap. Smith saddles up Great Again, Reykjavik, Epic Grey and Riding The Wave in Wednesday’s feature flat race.
“Of my runners in the Wangoom, he’s the one I think has got it in him to win a nice race like this,” Smith stated.
Smith also made a strong case for Adelaide Ace who is set to resume in race 8 on Thursday over the 1400m. Last year’s Group 2 Caulfield Autumn Classic winner will be looking to get his career back on track with a chance at some of the nice races in Queensland a possibility for the Savabeel gelding.
