Sheiswhatsheis set to strike in the Tattersall’s Mile

LAST start winner Sheiswhatsheis may be on the second line of betting for Saturday’s Tattersall’s Mile at Doomben behind even-money favourite Crack Me Up, but the mare looks well placed to record back-to-back wins for the second time this year.

In a race that has quality form throughout, Tony Gollan’s five-year-old brings in the most impressive victory after it hammered the field in the Brett Whalley & Co Handicap on July 8 at the same course it will confront this weekend.

Despite the strong win Sheiswhatsheis runs as the second favourite (+200) at CrownBet.com.au behind Crack Me Up for the listed feature.

The trainer believes his horse is well placed to continue its rich vein of form.

“She looks really good coming into Saturday,” Gollan told HorseBetting.com.au.

The trainer believes the blistering five length win at Doomben two-weeks-ago is indicative of where the horse is at following a short let up.

“We gave her a slight freshen up from the winter, got her back in and we were happy with her, especially in that run off the break was really good and she’s trained on great in the last two weeks,” Gollan said.

The win over 1600m at Doomben displayed an aptitude Gollan had been looking for after searching for the right distance, including running her over 2000m at Toowoomba in April and trying 1200m earlier in its career.

Gollan is now confident the mile is the right distance and hopes to take Sheiswhatsheis’s record to five wins from eight starts over course and distance on Saturday.

“She’s been really good around the mile at Doomben,” the trainer explained.

“It took her and I a little while to work out that was probably her trip, but since she’s gotten to this track and trip she’s been really, really good.

“The big difference this time to last time will be the ground, which will be a little bit drier, but that’s no issue for her either I don’t think.”

The punters have rallied around Sheiswhatsheis’ main rival in the market Crack Me Up, but the five-year-old takes in a distinct advantage after drawing barrier four as opposed to barrier 11, which the short-priced favourite will jump from.

“I think my mare is probably quicker then Crack Me Up,” he said.

“They led the other day at the Sunshine Coast, but it was such a slowly run race someone had to lead it and that’s probably how it lead. Historically it’s not really known as a leader.”

The front-running nature of the horse over the 1600m has lead the trainer to disregard the barriers somewhat, despite what many would deem as the superior gate to the market elect.

“To be honest the gate doesn’t really worry me,” Gollan said.

“No doubt Crack Me Up will have to go forward anyway, and it will be around us in the run somewhere.

“She’s a go-forward of horse at the mile anyway, but I think four is okay. We drew wide the other day and she got across quite good.

“I’m happy with gate four but I wouldn’t be too worried with whatever gate she drew, she’s a go-forward horse and the barriers don’t really concern me at this trip.”

If a duel for the lead does eventuate, Gollan believes his mare has what it takes to hold out the Liam Birchley-trained gelding and lead the field.

“I imagine my filly will take up the running, I’d be surprised if anything led us,” he said.

“We’ve got the fastest horse probably over the first 100 or two, then it’s a matter of if anything wants to take us on and pressure us it’s up to them.

“We’ll take a sit if we have to, but taking a look at the race we’ll probably be the leader.”
