Shaun Guymer guides Ahmad to the craziest win of 2019
IT is fair to say that if being jockey gets boring for Shaun Guymer he’ll have a career as a bull rider waiting in the wings following a heart-stopping win aboard Ahmed at Nowra on Monday.
Going out as a $3.20 favourite at online bookmaker Sportsbet, Ahmad travelled strongly into the race and looked the winner at the 200m mark as Guymer drove the gelding to the front of the field and rode him out hard to pinch what looked like an unassailable lead.

As the post loomed the four-year-old stumbled, launching the jockey forward and almost off his back. Guymer maintained his composure though, remaining on top of Ahmad to deliver one of the more bizarre wins of 2019 to date.
Thankfully all was well with both horse and jockey post-race as Ahmad extended his winning streak to two.
Shaun Guymer take a bow. How did he stay on? If you get a chance watch the 6th race at Nowra and keep an eye on Ahmad, the horse Guymer rode, as it stumbles across the winning post in first place. #horsemanship

Hopefully next time we see him on the race track it will be about the strength of his victory and not how he nearly threw it away.
