Monday sees a rare Sha Tin evening meet for Hong Kong racing followers with a competitive eight-race program set for decision. The rail is in the C position the entire circuit and the forecast doesn’t look favorable for racegoers with scattered showers and thunderstorms predicted for race-day.
Hopefully the track holds up for the first race scheduled for 7:15pm HKT (9:15pm AEST).
Sha Tin Best Bet: Simple Hedge
Simple Hedge needs to mature with some barrier manners; however, it’s hard to doubt his ability on the course. His habit of missing the start is starting to frustrate punters – particularly in his latest effort when running into second behind a dominant win of Yellowfin on June 18. He was beaten by three lengths on that occasion but finished off strongly, clearly providing the flashing light for punters to follow him once more. Zac Purton has the task of getting this son of Sebring to ping the lids from barrier three, and if he does, Simple Hedge will take a power of beating with even luck.

Next Best at Sha Tin: Excellent Fighter
Excellent Fighter has been stranded from barrier-11 his last two performances and we’re expecting to see a much better run on Monday evening. This lightly-raced four-year-old has been brave when wide on both occasions and now with barrier six should find a much more prominent run in transit. His versatility is exciting, being able to produce on both ends of a race and with a wet track likely for race-day, we’re bolstered with confidence by the fact both minor placings came on Heavy ground. Vincent Ho knows Excellent Fighter well now and we’d be shocked if he didn’t figure around the money again.

Next Best Again at Sha Tin: Lady’s Choice
Lady’s Choice is searching for back-to-back wins and looks primed to do exactly that. He gets a very similar set-up to his latest win on June 10, and although he does get a significant 3kg weight penalty for the win, the line-up he faces doesn’t have too much depth. His win was dominant and drawn barrier three again with Zac Purton electing to stick aboard, it’s hard to imagine anything from that race turning the tables. There’s plenty of speed here to give Lady’s Choice a cart into the race, and with some wet track form to his name, Lady’s Choice should be powering over the top of his rivals again.
