Seymour Cup betting preview

Due to ongoing track works at the usual venue, the 21st edition of the Seymour Cup will be held at Kilmore this Sunday afternoon at 5pm AEDT. For the first time since the inaugural running, it will be held on rain-affected ground. The small field of eight includes a few Listed Race winners.

Craig Williams teams up with Leon and Troy Corstens on this 5YO stallion. He has chased home the likes of Windstorm, Buffalo River and Savitiano this campaign and looks to have the strongest form leading into the Seymour Cup. As a galloper who prefers to be the one dictating terms, the speed he sets at the head of this small field will be key to his chances. He was victorious twice in town during the winter and wasn’t beaten far at Caulfield in his last three starts against better opposition.

Last year’s Sandown Stakes winner was not beaten far by Windstorm three weeks ago and was only beaten half a length by Seymour Cup favourite Morrissy in the process. The now-8YO gelding hasn’t won since that Sandown Stakes victory, but he should be fighting out the finish here under the in-form Jamie Kah. He has won twice previously on rain-affected ground, and from barrier three Kah will have plenty of time to settle him in a positive position one off the rails.

Best ValueBartholomeu Dias (#5) $6.50 with Sportsbet

This 6YO gelding is one of the more interesting gallopers in the race. There was plenty of hype around him during his winter campaign, but it only amounted to the lone victory in his debut Australian campaign. He enters the Seymour Cup first up and will most likely take up a positive position considering his wide barrier draw. He has a proven first-up record and will come to hand quickly. With the services of John Allen on board, he’ll be up there in the concluding stages.
