Day One of the Scone Carnival will be run on Friday afternoon, with the feature $200,000 Listed Scone Cup (1600m). HorseBetting’s New South Wales racing analyst presents you with his best bet in the Cup, as well as his best bets and quaddie numbers for the nine-race program, which is scheduled to get underway at 11:50am AEST. The track is rated a Soft 5 and the rail is in the true position for the entire course.

Scone Cup Best Bet – Profit

Queensland galloper Profit has always been a big-track horse, with his best runs coming at the Sunshine Coast and Eagle Farm, so we are tipping that he will love the long straight at Scone when he lines up in the Listed feature this Friday. Chris Anderson has accepted with both Profit and Ballistic Boy – two very consistent horses – but we think that the former is the better of the two over the mile. Despite being plain first-up in the Tails Stakes (1640m) at Doomben, the form has been franked by the winner (Kukeracha) going on to run third behind Zaaki on Saturday in the Hollindale Stakes. The son of Dundeel gets on to a drier deck on Friday and should be able to get a great run in transit from barrier eight under gun hoop Kyle Wilson-Taylor. This looks to be a planned assault on Scone.

Best Bet at Scone – African Daisy

While African Daisy started long odds-on in her five-length maiden romp last start out, we expect to see better odds available on Friday given the depth to this race – but we still think she is good enough to win. The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained filly gave nothing else a chance at Wyong on April 28 over 1350m in her first run for the preparation, running her rivals into the ground to win by 5 lengths on a Heavy 10. The three-year-old by American Pharoah does now step up to 1600m and goes straight into a competitive Class 1, but the wide barrier should ensure she stays out of trouble and finds the front under Tim Clark. Too good again.

Next Best at Scone – Park Avenue

You either love or you hate Park Avenue – there isn’t really an in between. The Richard & Will Freedman-trained three-year-old has only won two of his 12 starts, but he comes out of a high-rating Class 3 at Eagle Farm a fortnight ago when third to Arentee, which looks the right form for this. He will have to carry the grandstand, with 62kg allocated, but it is a claiming race and no jockey has been locked in yet, so the Freedman stable might opt to book an apprentice for the ride and give the horse some weight relief. From the inside alley, he will be able to settle right on the leader’s back and get out at the right time to return to the winner’s stall.
