Wednesday racing tips for Sandown Hillside

Eight races are scheduled for the Sandown Hillside track on Wednesday to help punters get rid of the midweek blues. After consistent rain throughout Sunday and Monday, the track has come up a Soft 7.

When we last raced here on Zipping Classic Day, winners came from everywhere and the track was arguably the best we had seen in a long time. With the rail coming out to the 4m mark for this meeting, it is hard to imagine anything different this time around.

The first race on the Hillside track will jump at 1:45pm AEDT.

Best BetRace 2 – Chief Altony (#3) $2.80 with Sportsbet

Alexander Rae’s four-year-old gelding has been ever consistent since debuting in March this year. He has yet to miss a place in seven career starts and has three runner-up performances in his four goes this campaign. He finds a race that is no harder than what he has experienced to date and looks well placed despite the wide barrier. He’s a galloper that naturally gets back in the running, but he will have plenty of time to go through the gears down the long straight on the Hillside track. Getting Damien Oliver on board for the first time can only benefit his chances.

Next BestRace 7 – Caffrey (#6) $4.50 with Sportsbet

The formidable duo of Peter Moody and Luke Nolen join forces with this impressive five-year-old gelding. The lightly raced galloper has three wins from five starts and won second up in similar conditions last campaign at the track over 1400m. He maps to have no trouble getting into a positive position from barrier four and will take huge benefit from a tough run at Flemington on Oaks Day.

Best ValueRace 6 – Toffee Doll (#15) $8 with Sportsbet

Matt Laurie and Luke Nolen will be hoping they can go one better this time with Toffee Doll, who ran second a fortnight ago on a Friday night at Pakenham. She has been a costly galloper to follow so far this campaign, as she has gone around as favourite in all three starts this year without a single win. She had to sustain a long run last time out and was vulnerable over the concluding stages, but we think she can bounce back at Sandown.
