Sandown Race Betting Preview – March 3, 2021
The twilight racing season continues from 3:05pm AEDT this Wednesday with eight races set down for decision on the Sandown Lakeside track. The surface has come up a Good 4 and the rail is in the true position, so we are set for a cracking day of racing with a card that features plenty of runners pushing for higher honours later on in the Autumn Carnival.
Best Bet: Eagles Crag
Having silenced any doubters at Pakenham on February 11 with a near six-length victory on his Australian debut, the Archie Alexander-trained Eagles Crag looks hard to go past. In that run the Fastnet Rock stallion settled second in the running, joined the lead at the 400m, and then quickly put space on his rivals to romp home untouched in an utterly dominant performance. We are expecting a similar run here at Sandown, especially with Jamie Kah jumping on board. Look for Eagles Crag to make his way across the field from barrier 11 and sit outside the leader before powering away when asked for an effort.

Next Best: Home Rule
Having dominated his maiden win at Warrnambool on February 18, the step up to metro class looks ideal for the Maddie Raymond-trained Home Rule. At The ‘Bool he led throughout and gave nothing else a chance, and John Allen should have no issue getting him to the lead early from the middle of the pack at Sandown. The step up from 1000m to 1200m looks ideal for the three-year-old gelding, and it will be no disadvantage to be at the front of the field given the Lakeside circuit has tended to favour on-speed runners of late.
Race 4 – Home Rule (#10)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1362711_04]
Best Value: Bella Royale
Lloyd Kennewell’s three-year-old filly Bella Royale broke through for an impressive win at Werribee on February 21. Having chased home a few handy types in her initial campaign during the spring, her first-up run suggested she has improved markedly during her time in the paddock. Damien Oliver hopping on board can only be a positive, and we expect her to be fighting out the finish thanks to a slick turn of foot.
