Eight races are set down for judgement on Wednesday afternoon when racing returns to the Lakeside track at Sandown. With rain forecast for Tuesday and leading up to race one on the card, we look to be racing on a soft track, despite the track coming up as a Good 4. With the rail out 7m the entire circuit, history suggests that being up on speed on the Lakeside track is no disadvantage.

Best Bet: Race 3 #5 Duke Of Neworleans @ $1.70
Is it possible to ignore an eight length debut victory on a Heavy 9? Apparently not, because we think Duke Of Neworleans has what it takes to salute as our best bet on the Sandown Lakeside card. He was an all the way winner on that occasion and from barrier two on Wednesday he should get an easy time of it out in front and it looks to be a genuine sit and steer job for Ethan Brown. If he gets the job done in a similar style at Sandown, then surely Matt Laurie has a black-type race in mind for his gelding.

Next Best:Race 2 #9 Rising Sphere @ $3.20
Phillip Stokes and Jamie Mott combine in race two to try and string together successive victories at Sandown Lakeside for Rising Sphere. There could have been plenty of excuses for the gelding out of Exosphere, however he managed to cling on in the concluding stages to break his maiden in fine fashion. In his juvenile campaign he chased home the likes of Euphoric Summer and Aysar, and considering he has returned in fine form for his three-year-old campaign he should prove too strong for this BM64 field over 1200m.

Best Value: Race 5 #8 Hughes The Boss @ $8.50
The Danny O’Sullivan trained Hughes The Boss has been racing in consistent form without breaking through for a win this campaign. His last start fifth at Werribee was the first time he had ran outside of the placings this campaign, but looks nicely placed to break a run of outs when running over the mile at Sandown. With Will Price retaining the ride, look for him to settle midfield in the small field and come over the top of them late.
