Sandown Lakeside betting preview – March 10, 2021
The Lakeside track at Sandown will host an eight-race card on Wednesday afternoon as the twilight season continues for another week in Victoria. Despite rain earlier in the week, a clear forecast suggests we should be racing on a Good 4 when the first event jumps at 3:05pm AEDT. With the rail out 3m for the entire circuit, we are set fair for what looks to be a competitive midweek meeting.
Best Bet: Guns Ablazing
Amy & Ash Yargi saddle up Guns Ablazing in a 3000m BM70 at Sandown on Wednesday, and he looks hard to go past as the best bet on the card. The six-year-old gelding’s win at Moonee Valley two starts back was as convincing as they come; he gave nothing else a chance when going for home with 600m to go and went on to score by four lengths to bring up his second win of the campaign. His last-start third at The Valley looks to be a bit of a forgive run. He steps up to the 3000m for the first time, but he is the one we want to be with.

Next Best: Ruby Street
Ruby Street’s past month of racing has produced arguably career-best results, including a win at Pakenham two runs back and an unlucky runner-up performance over the 1500m at Sandown. Stepping up to the mile for the first time, the Kevin Corstens-trained mare looks well placed to handle the rise in distance. Her last-start second saw her fly home to just miss, and you would think Ruby Street will be hard to beat if she replicates that performance on Wednesday.
Race 4 – Ruby Street (#7)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1363263_04]
Best Value: Celestial Sol
With just one victory last campaign for the Chris Waller-trained Celestial Sol, connections would be expecting improved results this autumn. Having raced in Listed and Group company towards the back end of the spring, the three-year-old colt should appreciate the drop back in grade to a Class 1. From barrier three, Craig Williams will look to settle him midfield and then motor away with a sharp turn of foot. He is the one to be with in the first leg of the Sandown quaddie.
Race 5 – Celestial (#4)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1363263_05]
