Sandown Lakeside betting preview – March 17, 2021
HorseBetting.com.au brings you betting tips, top odds and quaddie numbers for Wednesday’s eight-race program on the Lakeside track at Sandown. The track has come up a Good 4 after a weekend full of rain, and with clear skies forecasted we are set for a cracking day of racing. The rail is out 6m for the entire circuit, so it may pay to be up on speed throughout the meeting. Racing is set to get underway at 3:05pm AEDT.
Best Bet: Mystery Shot
The Lindsey Smith-trained Mystery Shot was sent around as a $4.40 drifting favourite on March 3 over the 1600m here and scored in gritty style despite sitting three wide the trip without cover. The son of Shooting To Win drops back to 1400m, where he has won on four occasions and finished runner-up in his only failure over the trip. From barrier seven he will need a bit of luck early on in the running to get across to the rail, but as he showed last time out, he can get this done the hard way. Lachie Neindorf retains the ride, and his 2kg claim brings the weight down to 60kg. Mystery Shot is easily the best horse in the race and should win this.

Next Best: Baby Boomer
From one Lindsey Smith runner to another, this time earlier in the card with Baby Boomer. Back after a year-long spell, the former Tony Gollan-trained gelding looks well placed here. Having only been beaten a nose by the classy The Odyssey back in February last year, the impressive Queensland form is what we want to be with. Despite only tasting success once from eight starts, with four runner-up results, he should be bringing up win number two on Wednesday. With a hot tempo expected over 1200m, it should allow Baby Boomer to take a sit off the leaders and then power over the top of them late on.

Best Value: South Parade
The John Sadler-trained South Parade drops a massive 6kg from his last-start maiden victory at Bendigo, thanks in part to Matthew Cartwright’s 3kg claim. From barrier seven we expect South Parade to be ridden forward in a bid to settle in the one-one position. On the back of a genuine tempo from Home Rule, look for a slick turn of foot at the 300m mark as South Parade aims to bring up consecutive victories for the first time in his career.
