What Sandown Races
Where Sandown Racecourse – 591-659 Princes Hwy, Springvale VIC 3171
When Wednesday, April 6, 2022
First Race 12:30pm AEST

The two-year olds start the afternoon at Sandown’s Lakeside circuit on Wednesday with a nine-race card for punters to consider. Now that daylight savings has finished, race one is back to a lunchtime start at 12:30pm AEST, with the last race going off at 5:05pm. Race six starts the quaddie at 3:20pm with nine runners engaged. Race eight over 1200m for the three-yer-olds looks to be the hardest of the quaddie legs, with 10 runners engaged, many that are in similar stages of their preparations.

BEST BET: CONVICT SAM

Archie Alexander and Declan Bates combine again with this strong stayer who was second over this track and distance last start. A few of these horses meet again, and with Convict Sam having his third run in now, we think he will be 100 percent fit now. The son of Fiorente x Sheeza Host has been well backed in his last two starts and hasn’t been too far away, running second and third respectively. This preparation Alexander has been training him to stay more after winning over 1800m here on December 15. He drops 2.5kg from his last start, which should assist, and from barrier two, Bates should be able to position up nicely in the first 200m.

Best BetRace 3 – #2 Convict Sam $4.00 with Ladbrokes

NEXT BEST: FLASH FLOOD

After two recent jumpouts and a solid second where he was beaten a nostril at Warrnambool, Flash Flood looks ready to run another big race for punters. He came from a fair way back at Warrnambool and with another 50m he probably wins. He again carries 62kg for the Maher & Eustace stable but has been freshened for this and will be hoping the track plays into the hands of those running on down the middle. Hardest to beat in this is Greg Eurell’s Don Diego, who was impressive winning on debut, and Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott (Sepreinte), Matthew Ellerton (Lunares) and Tony & Calvin McEvoy (The Brumby) also have genuine chances, so you will want the right odds in a competitive race.

Next BestRace 5 – #3 Flash Flood $14.00 with Ladbrokes

BEST VALUE: ROMANY ROCKS

Symon Wilde brings Romany Rocks back to town after a failure last time at Flemington when 11th, beaten 9.6 lengths, albeit in a $175,000 Listed race. Before that she looked good winning at Ballarat, and you would think the stable must have an opinion of her if they have brought her straight back to handy midweek company. The way the track is will be important, with Romany Rocks winning on a good surface at Ballarat but finishing a fair way back last time on softer ground. The track is currently rated a Soft 6, so we are not sure anymore rain will favour the filly.

Best ValueRace 9 – #11 Romany Rocks $13.00 with Ladbrokes
