Sandown Hillside racing tips – February 3, 2021
The Hillside track at Sandown will host an eight-race card on Wednesday afternoon as the twilight racing season continues in Melbourne. The track has come up as a Good 4 and the forecast is clear, so we should be set for a cracking day of racing. With the rail out 3m for the entire circuit, we could see the backmarkers play a part. The first at Sandown is set to jump at 3:40pm AEDT.
Best Bet: Quesadilla
The Mike Moroney-trained mare Quesadilla looks well placed to continue what has been an impressive start to her career. From seven starts she is yet to finish worse than third, with four runner-up performances and two victories. From barrier one she maps to do no work in the running and should be on the heels of the leader and market favourite, Kiata, the whole race. With a genuine tempo expected, she should be doing her best work late along the rails. Jordan Childs hops on board for the first time, and it should be a victorious change of rider for connections and potentially a metro Saturday race next up.

Next Best: Setanta
Since moving down to Melbourne, the Maher & Eustace-trained Setanta has been nothing short of superb. Two runs back the colt broke his maiden in style when travelling three wide without cover on pace and bolting in by just over three lengths. His last-start effort over the 1400m here on January 20 showed he should have no issues stepping up to the mile for the first time; he settled just off the leader’s heels and did all but hold out the eventual winner, perhaps finding the 1400m a touch too sharp. From barrier one he maps to get a similar run in transit on Wednesday and should prove too good for this BM70 field.

Best Value: Johnny Angel
Aaron Purcell and Craig Williams combine with Johnny Angel, who has been racing in fine form this campaign and managed to break through for a maiden win over the 1200m here on January 20. He’s a natural front-running galloper who likes to dictate terms, and from barrier nine Willow shouldn’t have too many issues getting him to the front. With a bit of luck early on, he will give us a big sight at odds in the second leg of the quaddie.
