A midweek metropolitan meeting is scheduled for the Hillside track at Sandown on Wednesday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s Victorian form analyst presents his best bets and top quaddie numbers with odds from Australia’s leading online bookmakers. The track is rated a Soft 6, the rail will be out 12m, and the meeting is set to commence at 1pm AEST.

Sandown Best Bet: The Garden

Symon Wilde brings his four-year-old gelding The Garden back to Sandown on Wednesday following a smart win on the Lakeside track on August 25. Having beaten the handy Marimenko in an all-the-way victory, the rise to BM70 class looks like it should be no issue. Melissa Julius retains the ride with her 3kg claim and from barrier one should have no trouble in finding the rail and dictating terms. Despite needing to lug 58.5kg, The Garden clearly looks to have above-average ability, and on a day where it should be advantageous to be up on speed with the rail out 12m, he looks to be a clear best bet on the Sandown card.

Next Best at Sandown: Whipcracker Way

The Phillip Stokes-trained Whipcracker Way resumes after a short 10-week break. With three wins from three first-up runs, the five-year-old Shamus Award gelding will look to make it two wins from as many starts at the Sandown Lakeside 1000m. Josh Richards hops on board with his 3kg claim and from barrier four should have no issue in finding the front and dictating terms throughout. Whipcracker Way will go around with just 57kg on his back, and considering he chased home the likes of The Astrologist, Pintoff and Express Pass in his previous campaign, he clearly has a class edge on his rivals.

Sandown Value Bet: Blackcomb

The Danny O’Brien-trained Blackcomb returns to Sandown following a midfield effort behind Adele Amour on August 18. Despite seeing plenty of backing prior to the jump, the three-year-old Vancouver filly could do no better than a four-length defeat when finishing fifth, although she was seemingly hitting the line nicely over 1400m. She steps up to 1600m for the first time in her career, which looks ideal, and a win here could bring the Thousand Guineas into the mix.
