Where Sandown Racecourse – 591-659 Princes Hwy, Springvale VIC 3171
When Wednesday, December 22, 2021
First Race 3:40pm AEDT

The Hillside track at Sandown is set to host an eight-race card on a Wednesday afternoon for the third week in a row, and HorseBetting’s Victorian form analyst presents his best bets and free quaddie picks for the meeting. The track is rated a Good 4, the rail is out 8m for the entire circuit, and racing is set to kick off at 3:40pm AEDT.

Sandown Best Bet – Tigertiger

Rob Blacker brings his six-year-old gelding Tigertiger back to the Sandown 2400m following a dominant win at this track and distance on December 8. He managed to turn the tables on Saying, who smashed him at Moonee Valley the start prior, but with a 1.5kg weight swing Tigertiger was simply too powerful late when winning by five lengths. He is set to drop 0.5kg on the back of Logan McNeil’s 3kg claim, and barring any bad luck, this son of Zed should win once again. Barrier 10 should not be an issue, as he looks to get back and run on as it is, and with just 59kg on his back he looks the one to be with. He showed a barnstorming turn of foot inside the final 200m last time, and we anticipate he will produce something similar in this.

Next Best Bet at Sandown – Rising

The way the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Rising won on debut at Stawell on December 4 suggested he was one to follow. The four-year-old son of I Am Invincible smashed his rivals in a dominant all-the-way victory, going on to put some five lengths on the runner-up. He comes to a Sandown track that should suit front-runners, and with Linda Meech retaining the ride, he looks a great bet. From barrier one, Meech will have no issue in finding the front and dictating terms throughout over 1400m. Rising put three lengths on his rivals when turning at Stawell, and if he does something similar on Wednesday, he will prove hard to run down.

Next BestRace 4 – Rising (#4) $3.10 with Sportsbet

Best Value Bet at Sandown – Miss Moonshine

In the opening event of the day, we are happy to take a risk on the Cindy Alderson-trained Miss Moonshine following a fifth-place finish on debut at Cranbourne on December 10. He travelled three wide up on speed with no cover on that day but did well to stick on, beaten a touch over three lengths. The rail being out 8m on Wednesday will benefit the on-pacers, and based on exposed form, that should suit this three-year-old filly down to the ground. If she does not get trapped wide from barrier six, Miss Moonshine can run a big race at a nice price.
