Sandown betting tips

Victorian metropolitan racing will head to Sandown on Wednesday with eight races to be held on the Lakeside circuit. The track is rated a Heavy 9 at the moment and is likely to stay that way with a few light showers forecast for Tuesday night. The rail will be in the true position for the entire circumference. Race 1 is scheduled to jump at 12:25pm AEST.

Wednesday racing tips for Sandown

Best Bet
Race 4 – Anything But @ $3 Sportsbet

Michael Moroney’s promising 4yo will contest the BM70 2100m Handicap on Wednesday, partnered again with in-form jockey Billy Egan. Anything But is shooting for three consecutive wins and looks primed to get it done. The Savabeel gelding has won his last two races by a cumulative margin of 3.75 lengths over 2050m and 2025m respectively. While this will be his first attempt on heavy ground, his three wins have come on a soft track and his breeding suggests he will thrive in the mud. Interestingly, his main market rival, Upswing, is also aiming to make it three wins in a row, but Egan has jumped off that horse to stick with our top pick. He will get a great run in transit from the inside alley and should prove too good again.

Next Best
Race 8 – Hidden Legend @ $2.60

Hidden Legend has had four-and-a-half weeks to freshen up since his dominant two-length victory on the Hillside track at the end of April. That race was run on a Heavy 9 over 1300m, so the similar conditions – albeit an extra 100m in trip – look to suit John Sadler’s gelding down to the ground. The son of Pluck does rise to BM70 grade here, but the booking of apprentice Will Price will see the horse race with just 56kg. That will benefit Hidden Legend greatly after winning with 59.5kg last time. He’ll get a gun run just off the speed from barrier two and will be suited by likely leader Hapaira drawn inside him.

Best Value
Race 5 – Bee Tee Junior @ $15 Sportsbet

Ex-New Zealand galloper Bee Tee Junior lines up in just his third Australian race at start number 48 in this 2400m Benchmark 78. Last start, online bookmakers sent the 8yo around as a $91 rank outsider, yet he finished a respectable second behind the promising stayer Arty Lucas. He appeared to be left flat footed when they swung for home and grinded away to the post before picking up again in the last 100m to suggest the extra 400m will suit the son of Nom Du Jeu. Some eight of his nine wins have come on a rain-affected track, while he has finished in the quinella in five of his 10 starts on a heavy surface. Campbell Rawiller’s claim gets the gelding in with just 57.5kg, which will give him every chance from his soft draw. If he can bring his best, Bee Tee Junior is a good each-way betting proposition.
