Racing heads to Sale Racecourse in Gippsland for an eight-part card on Thursday afternoon. The meeting is set to be run on a track rated a Soft 6, with the rail in the true position for the entire circuit. HorseBetting.com.au brings you the top odds, best bets and free quaddie numbers for the card getting underway at 1pm AEST.

Best Bet: Five Bulls

We were with the Nick Ryan-trained Five Bulls at Cranbourne on April 16, but he set too hot a tempo out in front and tired quickly. Rhys McLeod will need to use the horse’s early barrier speed to get down to the rails and will want to make sure he settles better than he did at Cranbourne. Stepping back from the 1300m to 1200m should be no deterrent, and in a race that lacks early speed he should get a quiet time out in front. With the track expected to remain in the soft range, it should favour on-pace runners. With a well-rated steer from McLeod, the son of Stratum should be breaking his maiden at start five.

Next Best: Falls

The Mick Price-trained Falls broke a run of outs to break through at Pakenham on April 22 in an all-the-way victory and looks hard to go past in the second leg of the Sale quaddie. He gets Damien Oliver back on board, and when the two combine they have only missed the quinella on one occasion. With proven wet-track form, a solid draw in barrier three, and dropping 1kg off that last-start win, Falls should prove hard to catch on the back of a well-rated ride from Ollie.

Next Best Again: Martini Special

Jerome Hunter will be hoping his three-year-old filly Martini Special enjoys a touch more luck than she got at Pakenham on May 13. On that day she was held up for a run at a crucial time, but once she balanced up and found clear running, she was working home nicely out wide. Her two career peaks have come when racing up on speed, and the booking of Celine Gaudray, who claims 2kg, suggests the pair will look for the rails early on. If she has the lead upon settling, Martini Special will be hard to run down.
