Sale Races Horse Betting Preview – Sunday, 3rd January 2021
An eight race card is set down for decision on Sunday as the bumper weekend of racing comes to a close at Sale for what looks to be a competitive card of racing. With plenty of rain forecasted for the meeting it’ll pay dividends to look for the wet trackers throughout the card, and considering we are already on a Soft 5 at the time of writing you would expect the track to deteriorate even more. With the rail out 6m the entire circuit it may pay to see how the track plays early on, especially if the rain arrives for any on-speed bias.
The first at Sale is set to jump at 1pm AEDT.
We’re hoping the Matt Laurie trained American Saint can get the job done for us on Sunday and salute as our best tip on the Sale card. The three-year-old filly was a tough winner last time out over the Mornington 1200m when getting her head down in time in a four way finish. From barrier nine on Sunday she will need a touch of luck early on to get across to the front, but if she is afforded that luck look for her to dictate terms to her liking. With not much early speed engaged she looks to get an easy time of it out in front, and if she can give a kick on the corner she looks hard to run down here.

As mentioned earlier with the rain forecasted and the rail position it’ll pay to follow leaders early on in the card at Sale. Hence why we’re keen to play around the second starter out of the John Hunter stable All Stardom who was well supported on debut four months ago before going down on the line at Mornington. On that occasion he raced on a Soft 7 and with similar conditions expected on Sunday there’s no reason why the gelding cannot go one better. All Stardom is the only galloper in the race who has shown any early speed, and if he gets a quiet time out in front, good luck running him down.

The Wendy Kelly trained Cakewalk Baby managed to break through for a maiden victory at Geelong last time out when saluting as favourite on a Heavy 9. The three-year-old filly is yet to miss a placing in all three of her starts to date, and two of those (including her win at Geelong) has come on rain affected going. From barrier two on Sunday, Teo Nugent will look to settle he just off of the leaders heels, and if she can handle the step up to a BM64 she should be fighting out the finish.
