Sale racecourse is scheduled to host an eight-race card on Sunday afternoon and Horsebetting’s Victorian form analyst presents his best bets, top odds and free quaddie picks. The track has come up as a Good 4, with the rail out 4m the entire circuit, for the meeting commencing at 1pm AEDT.
Sale Best Bet – Fiverfingerdiscount
Patrick Payne will look to get his five-year-old gelding Fivefingerdiscount back into the winner’s circle following a runner-up effort at Sandown on December 8. The son of Pins could settle no better than three wide with no cover on that day, but did well to stick on and finish second, despite being beaten 2.5 lengths. He managed to amble up alongside the leader inside the final furlong, before race favourite Along The River finished over the top of this guy in impressive fashion. His win at Traralgon on debut two runs back saw him settle outside the leader and kept kicking to the line, to score in impressive style. We expect Jordan Maskiell to adopt similar tactics here on Sunday and will need a bit of luck in doing so from barrier eight. If the duo can settle outside the leader, then this Class 1 field will be finding Fivefingerdiscount too hard to run down over 1006m.
Next Best at Sale – Little Vista
We’ll be hoping Patrick Payne walks away with at least a training double on Sunday, as his three-year-old gelding Little Vista looks hard to beat early on in the program. The son of Fighting Sun has strung together three consecutive runner-up performances, including when hitting the line strongly at Wangaratta on December 3 over 1400m. He stays at 1400m on Sunday and with the in-form Damien Thornton hopping on board, he looks to be one of the better bets on the card. With speed drawn underneath him, Thornton should not have too much trouble in finding cover around midfield. With a well-timed sprint, he should be too good for this lot and bring up a deserved maiden win.
Sale Value Bet – Thunder Pace
The ever-reliable Thunder Pace from the Simone Walker is set to go around at a big price in the last race over 1206m and on the back of an unlucky run at Moonee Valley he presents great value. Having been held up for a run on the home turn at The Valley on December 3 at a crucial point, he never really got a fair crack at the leaders. In the end he was only beaten three lengths by Savannah Cloud, and we think that form stacks up nicely here in a Sale BM64. From barrier 11, we expect Arron Lynch to roll forward and opt to take up a front running position. Thunder Pace managed to bolt in at Mornington four runs back at BM58 level and if he produces anywhere near that type of effort on Sunday, he will take some running down at a huge price.
