Recent Run To The Rose results
- Despite suffering a late drift with online bookmakers, the James Cummings-trained Cylinder ($2.40) proved too good in the Group 2 Run To The Rose. His return in the Group 3 Vain Stakes on August 19 may have left a bit to be desired; however, the Godolphin colt didn’t disappoint edging clear with the prize despite a checkered under Nash Rawiller. He almost didn’t get clear when the race went on in the straight, crowded for room at a crucial stage. It was a no-panic ride from the star hoop in the end though, as the gap came with 200m to go, allowing Cylinder enough time to build into the race, going on to score by a head on the line. Moravia ($14.00) was left to take up the running and showed plenty of cheek holding second position, while Nadal ($10.00) and Butch Cassidy ($8.50) were there to challenge in the closing stages.
- The James Cummings-trained In Secret ($3.20) became the first filly to win the Group 2 The Run To The Rose, after she defeated Best Of Bordeaux ($4.80) and Sweet Ride ($17). Her trainer James Cummings and jockey Tommy Berry knew that history was against them; however, the filly re-wrote the history books with a devastating turn of foot that saw her glide on by the leading duo to claim victory. After being heavily backed before the race, In Secret jumped as the race favourite and she didn’t disappoint her followers, as she recorded a 1.7 length win over a tiring Best Of Bordeaux.
- Star colt Anamoe ($3.50) resumed as a winner, defeating In The Congo by half a length to take out the Run to the Rose at Kembla Grange. The James Cummings-trained galloper opened as a short favourite for the 1200m Group 2 but drifted significantly prior to the jump, yet he was still too good for his rivals. James McDonald once again partnered the son of Street Boss, and after getting a fair way back in the run off a hot tempo, the star jockey fought his way into the clear at the top of the straight and allowed his mount to quicken stride perfectly to arrive in time. Anamoe only got the upper hand in the final strides, defeating In The Congo ($10) by a long neck and Remarque ($3) by just over a length and a half.
- Rothfire ($5) confirmed his status as Robert Heathcote’s latest sprinting superstar with an impressive victory in the $200,000 Group 2 The Run to the Rose at Rosehill. After Farnan ($2.30) went extremely quick out in front, it was left up to the Heathcote runner to pull the rest of the field up to him. Once the field rounded the home turn, the son of Rothesay exploded and ran straight past the tiring leader, with Ole Kirk ($31) and North Pacific ($4) running on from the back to finish second and third, respectively.
- Bivouac ($4) turned the tables on Exceedance ($2.40) to win the Group 2 The Run To The Rose, after he was beaten by the race favourite in the San Domenico the start prior. Bivouac camped behind the leader Hightail ($12), who weakened in the final stages as Yes Yes Yes ($7) and Exceedance made their runs. However, Bivouac had too much on them, holding Yes Yes Yes by two lengths with a long head to Exceedance in third. The win gave James Cummings his first sole winner of the race after he shared the win of Hallowed Crown in 2014 with his grandfather, Bart Cummings.
