Where Ascot Racecourse – High St, Ascot SL5 7JX, United Kingdom
When Friday, June 20, 2025
First Race 2:30pm BST (11:30pm AEST)

The 2025 Royal Ascot carnival continues this Thursday afternoon, with the Group 1 Coronation Stakes (1603m) and Group 1 Commonwealth Cup (1207m) sharing top billing on a massive seven-part program for Day 4. Punters can once again anticipate a Good 4 surface, with nothing but sunny skies forecast in the lead-up. The penultimate day of racing at Royal Ascot is scheduled to get underway at 2:30pm BST.

Coronation Stakes Tip: Zarigana

Zarigana was declared the rightful winner of the Group 1 Poule D’essai Des Pouliches (1599m) at Longchamp on May 11, lodging a protest after storming into a second-place finish. She suffered significant interference at the furlong pole, knuckling down to the task to get within a lip of Shes Perfect as the placings were reversed upon further review. She has the superior turn of foot amongst this field of three-year-old fillies, and provided Mickael Barzalona can have Zarigana within striking distance turning for home, she will prove hard to hold out in the 2025 Coronation Stakes.

Commonwealth Cup Tip: Shadow Of Light

Two-time Group 1 winner Shadow Of Light was sensational when returning in the Group 1 2000 Guineas (1609m) at Newmarket on May 3. The son of Lope De Vega looked to make every post a winner, just fading at the end of mile first-up from a 29-week spell. Back to a sprinting trip should be ideal, and with William Buick likely to use the grandstand rail to his advantage from stall 19, Shadow Of Light should show this lot a clear pair of heels in the 2025 Commonwealth Cup.

Best Bet at Royal Ascot: Signora

The Aidan O’Brien-trained Signora flashed home on debut at Naas May 18, and although the daughter of Frankel didn’t figure in the finish, she could be one to follow coming out of the Royal Ascot carnival. Coolmore have had great success in the juvenile features so far, with the likes of Gstaad and True Love already claiming wins during the carnival. Signora appears to boast similar ability, and with Ryan Moore set to be legged aboard, expect this talented filly to justify favouritism with horse racing bookmakers in the opener.

Next Best at Royal Ascot: Amiloc

The undefeated Amiloc continues to impress this preparation, with the son of Postponed producing back-to-back barnstorming victories at Goodwood. He seems to be relishing the staying trip, putting a four-length margin in his rivals when stepping out to 2253m on May 24. This is a deep edition of the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes (2406m), but provided Amiloc can continue to progress, he should have the class to extend his winning streak to five.
