HorseBetting’s New South Wales form analyst has previewed Rosehill Garden’s nine-race card on Saturday, June 19th, and has come up with his best bets, quaddie numbers, and a top pick in the Listed feature, the W.J. McKell Cup. Running on a Heavy 8 with the rail out in the 7m position could make it hard to gain much ground from deep, so we will be looking for those who race handy and will get through the soggy surface. Race 1 is set to jump at 11:30am, with the feature due to go at 3:05pm.
W.J. McKell Cup Racing Tips
Chris Waller’s seven-year-old gelding Wu Gok is one runner who we know relishes the slop. A winner of eight from 14 on Heavy tracks, this son of Sebring looks ready to fire at his fifth run this campaign after a solid fourth in the Winter Cup at this track over 2400m a fortnight ago. Josh Parr will do the steering from barrier two, which will either see the mudlark lead or take a trail, but we expect the former. Waller has five of the 12 runners facing the starter here, but a couple of those are dual acceptors in the Listed Ipswich Cup, so if they run there, it will only enhance Wu Gok’s chances. Rosehill Best Bet: Wicklow
We are going to take the short way home in the second with another of Chris Waller’s runners. This imported gelding has only had the five starts, with two of those here in Australia. He broke his maiden status at Newcastle in strong fashion before backing that up with a dominant win at this track and trip a fortnight ago. The three-year-old has the right profile to be going through the grades this time of year, and with success on wet tracks in the past, it makes him hard to go past. Brenton Avdulla has been on for both starts in Australia and sticks here, which is a plus, and the cushy barrier three should give Wicklow every possible chance. Three straight looks imminent.

Next Best at Rosehill: Monsieur Sisu
We think it might be one of those days that throw up a few rougher results, so we have gone a bit wider throughout the afternoon. Paul Cave and Louise Day will combine in the fourth with wet-track specialist Monsieur Sisu, and although it has been a while between drinks, the gelding has not been out of the numbers this prep. The son of Elvstroem has won four of his 14 starts on Heavy tracks and placed in a further six races on the slop, and he gets in well here with Day’s 2kg claim. The camp elected to scratch from the feature race and go around in this Benchmark 78 where the six-year-old has a fighting chance. Day can control the race from the front out of barrier two and get Monsieur Sisu another victory in the wet.

Rosehill Value Bet: Milk Man
This seven-year-old gelding is aptly named, as he is a dead-set milk drinker, but despite that, we think this race sets up nicely for him. The son of Kitten’s Joy has only won once in Australia since August 2019, which came on a Heavy 8 at Doomben almost 12 months to the day. That win came over the mile, and he now gets similar conditions over the 1500m at Rosehill. The Matthew Smith-trained gelding flashed home into third at Doomben at his last start on May 22nd and has since trialled at Hawkesbury to have him wound up here. The inside gate will allow Milk Man to settle closer, and Tyler Schiller’s 3kg claim sees him right in this at the weights. We will be playing on a 1×3 basis, but his last start indicated a win wasn’t far away.
