Rosehill racing preview
Nine races will be run and won on Saturday at Rosehill Gardens for Golden Eagle Day. The track is rated a Heavy 8, and the rail remains in the true position throughout. The meeting is set to kick off at 12:05am AEDT, with the feature race at 4:50pm.
James Cummings and Tom Sherry combine with five-year-old mare Segalas in a 1200m Fillies & Mares BM78 that doesn’t have a great deal of depth. Sherry’s 3kg claim gets her weight down to a manageable 58kg. Her wet track form is exceptional, only missing the place once from 10 starts on rain-affected going, and her form over 1200m is solid, with seven placings from nine starts. From barrier three, Sherry and Segalas should find the fence, settle behind the speed and be too good for these.

Ciaron Maher and David Eustace saddle up a talented filly who is three from three on wet going, with her only loss coming on a dry track when seventh to Rothfire in the J.J. Atkins at Group 1 level. She has had two nice trials and looks well placed here with 54.5kg under Jason Collett. There’s speed to burn from the outside barriers, so she should get a lovely run in transit and be flying late. She is a pretty smart filly and looks to be in for a big prep.

The Rosehill Gold Cup is one of the feature races of the day, and we believe crowd favourite The Candy Man can get the job done. He is four from four on Heavy going, which he will see for the first time since May last year. While he has struggled the Sydney way of going, the wet track over 2000m looks ideal. Tommy Berry takes the ride and will get in a nice spot from barrier seven, just in behind the speed. If he can improve on the soggy track like we expect him to, he’ll be very hard to beat.
