Rosehill racing preview & betting tips

Rosehill Gardens hosts a rare Friday meeting due to Kembla Grange holding Saturday metropolitan racing for The Gong’s second running. Seven races will be run and won on what is predicted to be a Good 4 surface, and the rail will be out +6m for the entirety of the course. The first race is set to jump at 3:10pm local time.

Best BetRace 1 – Regulation (#5) $3.10 with Sportsbet

James McDonald is back in Sydney and can be off to a winning resumption when he pairs up with Regulation. Having just his third start after placing in his first two runs, the three-year-old looks well placed to break his maiden. The Contributer gelding drops 1kg off his last-start 0.2L defeat at Kembla Grange after running second on debut at Newcastle when half a length off The Elanora, who subsequently won the NJC 3YO Spring Stakes at Group 3 level six days ago. He looks as though he will get a soft time in front and should prove too strong.

Next BestRace 3 – Toscanini (#5) $6.50 with Sportsbet

It might be worth having something on James McDonald in the Jockey Challenge on Friday, because he looks to have a good book of rides. In the third, he partners the Maher & Eustace colt Toscanini in a race that isn’t out of his depth. After winning his maiden at Newcastle last start comfortably, the runner-up in that race, Edmond, came out and bolted in at his next start. Toscanini clocked the best final 200m in that race, which he will need to produce again from the outside alley. We trust the stable can deliver a similar effort.

Best ValueRace 7 – Dream Circle (#10) $8 with Sportsbet

David Payne and Louise Day link up in the last with the consistent Dream Circle. After finishing 2.8L second to Frosty Rocks at this track last start over the same distance, he should be rock hard and ready to go one better here. On that occasion, he was tardy away, got checked and finished off with the best 800-200m sectionals when the race was all but over. He rises in weight by 5kg but drops in grade and gets some weight relief thanks to Day’s 2kg claim. Barrier one should suit if he can hold his position and box seat before being produced in the straight. He is a great each-way bet to round out the card.
