ROCKHAMPTON is racing this Sunday with a tight seven race card to wind down the weekend in the sunshine state.

Race 1 – Maiden Handicap (1050m)

Southern Special is ready to win after a strong return at this track and distance last time out. the horse rates as the best hope in this field and will have plenty of upside going forward.

Far North won well in open company last time out and we’re backing it to do the business once again. The horse is undefeated at the track and has a a terrific record of four wins and a second placing from nine runs.

Hourglass Time has been in stellar form this campaign, winning twice and placing second over its last four runs. The horse was only half a length away from winning last time out at Class 3 level and the filly gets the perfect gate to bounce back in strong fashion.

Malkara is a last-start winner that rates well once again. Despite getting an ordinary gate the horse drops weight and looks set to continue the hot form.

Race 5 – Benchmark 55 (1050m)

Rapt In Black gets barrier 14 to contend with but its resuming run suggests to us it can deliver second-up. The gelding finished just three lengths off the winner at CLB level on June 2 and this should be easier.

Chief Advocate ran well last time out on June 14 at this level and rates as a red-hot chance once again. Drawn well to be right in the mix at the start the five-year-old will be competitive in a weak race.

Balboa Rocks is going to be hard to beat in the headline event. After winning the last-start race at Rocky in open grading the horse comes into the event third-up, where it a win and two second placings four four attempts.
