What Rockhampton Races
Where Rockhampton Jockey Club – Reaney St, Rockhampton QLD 4701
When Thursday, April 28, 2021
First Race 12:20pm AEST

Eight races will be run and won at Callaghan Park in Rockhampton on Thursday afternoon. The track is rated a Good 4 and the rail is back into the true position, giving every runner their chance in the straight. HorseBetting.com.au’s Nicholas Lloyd has found two best bets, a value pick and a quaddie on his home track for Thursday’s meeting, which is due to jump at 12:20pm AEST.

Best Bet: Charles Seven

Charles Seven resumes from a 27-week spell at a course where he has tasted success when fresh in the past. The talented son of Hallowed Crown started off his career in the royal blue of Godolphin before moving to the Jared Wehlow stable in Central Queensland. The four-year-old has taken a liking to the weaker grade, winning two races and placing in a further three from his seven CQ runs. Drawn wide in barrier 12, Ryan Wiggins will send the gelding to the front, or at least in the first few, and he should prove too good for these Class 2 gallopers. There might be a nice race for him over the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

Best BetRace 8 – Charles Seven (#1) $3.30 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Highmaster

Here’s hoping the Jared Wehlow stable is ready to fire on Thursday as he saddles up another runner we are keen on in the fourth. Before joining Wehlow, Highmaster was placed in two metropolitan starts in New South Wales behind subsequent winner Savoury and then Blesk at his next start. The son of Poet’s Voice started favourite at Eagle Farm but was beaten 3.7 lengths by Racing Paradise, who only just lost at Doomben on Saturday. The four-year-old brings quality metropolitan form to the provincial circuit, so we expect he will be too good for his rivals in a Class 3 with only 57.5kg. Ash Butler does the steering from barrier five, which will likely see him handy to the speed.

Next BestRace 4 – Highmaster (#4) $1.50 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Hinvictus

William Weeks saddles up Hinvictus in a 1050m Benchmark 0-55 Handicap, and the four-year-old gelding looks to be a decent chance. He has had two runs at Rockhampton this campaign for a third and a second respectively, so hopefully that trend line will see him finish in the winner’s circle on Thursday. The form out of both runs has been solid behind Avocado Sunset and Grandioso, while Ziedrich – who finished third behind Grandioso – has since won at Yeppoon. The wide alley shouldn’t be too much of an issue for this son of Hinchinbrook, as he is likely to be ridden towards the rear under Marnu Potgieter, who claims 2kg. Third up will be his peak.

Best ValueRace 6 – Hinvictus (#2) $8 with Sportsbet
