Rockhampton horse betting preview
Nine races will be run and won at Rockhampton’s Callaghan Park from 12:32pm AEST on Friday afternoon. Headlined by the Magic Millions Country Cup Qualifier, a large contingent of southern horses have made the trek north to race on what will be a Good 4 track with the rail in the +6m position throughout.
The 1200m feature looks a great race for Mr Phenomenal to make it back-to-back wins. He did win five straight in the 2019 winter before going amiss. He then returned with a solid fourth before winning in tough fashion at this track and trip last start. He’s won nine races at Rockhampton, and he should get all the favours from gate three under Elyce Smith. He’ll have the speed to suit and should be good enough to win.
Stuart Kendrick brings north a horse who can bounce back in Don’t Waiver. The son of Not A Single Doubt won well at Ipswich at the end of October and has since run fourth in two of three races, including last start when 3.25 lengths off So Dapper on a Saturday at the Sunshine Coast. Drawn in gate five under Jake Bayliss, he’ll get the run of the race sitting one out one back. He is a winner over the mile in the past and should be suited by the big straight.
It looks a good day for the Sunshine Coast trainers in Rockhampton on Friday, with Darryl Hansen combining with Matty McGillivray in three races. At The Helm comes off a fifth to Threepoint Missile at the Gold Coast last start on the back of consecutive runner-up efforts at the Sunshine Coast. Over 1100m, he’ll look to cross the field and lead them a merry dance. He rises 1kg and faces weaker opposition, so he’ll be in it for a long, long way.
