Seven races make up Rockhampton’s Tuesday afternoon card. The rail will be moved out 2m for the entire circumference of the course proper. The track is currently rated a Soft 5, but there is a high chance of an upgrade by race day. The first race will jump at 1:45pm AEST.

Best Bet
Race 1 – Bold Pedro Best odds at Sportsbet

Sunshine Coast trainer Garnett Taylor brings two horses to Rockhampton, with his best coming in last-start winner Bold Pedro. In-form hoop Ryan Wiggins will ride the three-year-old gelding again as he looks to make it 14 winners from his last 50 runs (28%). Drawn the inside, he should land in the box seat behind likely leader Overseas. In the small field of six, Bold Pedro should be presented with plenty of room in the straight and replicate his last-start win, bustling into the clear and proving too strong for his rivals. On another positive note, he stays in very similar grade and drops 0.5kg. He looks a standout.

Race 3 – Bat A Kat Best odds at Sportsbet

We made Mark Lehmann’s talented gelding our value bet last time he went around, and he was beaten in the smallest of margins by Bogey Man. After a tough run outside the leader, he fought on very gamely before kicking strongly inside the final furlong. Bat A Kat finds another suitable race here, up in distance and down 1kg in weight. Drawn gate three for Brad Pengelly, he is likely to lead the field of six over the 1400m trip and get it all his own way in front, trusting that Macho Tycoon doesn’t take off and pester him from the outside alley. Prior to his last start, he finished 2.8 lengths back in 11th in the Mackay Newmarket, under half a length behind Deadly Choices, who subsequently won the ‘Stradbroke of the North’ at Townsville 10 days ago in the Cleveland Bay. Bat A Kat has had the one start for one win over 1400m when a 1.25-length victor at Doomben in his three-year-old season. He should have this small but talented field covered and make it win number seven at start 16.

Best Bet
Race 6 – Finucane Missile Best odds at Sportsbet

Finucane Missile lines up in a 1500m BM65 with 57kg from barrier 10. Senior rider Justin Stanley takes the ride and is likely to settle at the rear on the six-year-old Smart Missile gelding. His last-start fourth was a super run, coming from a mile back to only just miss the minor money. The trifecta from that race saw Don’t Doubt Lara win again at her last start, Cinnamon Missile beaten a lip at Doomben before running fourth in the Townsville Cup, and Elle A Walking run third at Mackay seven days ago. The form looks very solid and Finucane Missile should get a quicker tempo to set it up for him here. He is unplaced from two attempts over the 1500m, with one of those being at his last start and the other almost one year to the day ago when fifth behind this year’s Rockhampton Cup winner and Rocky Horse of the Year, Absolut Artie. Finucane Missile can win this and add some value to multiples.
