Rockhampton racing tips & best bets – Tuesday, 11 August 2020

Rockhampton racing news

Rockhampton plays host to eight races on Tuesday for Queensland’s standalone meeting. The track is rated a Soft 6 after heavy rain over the weekend, but a clear forecast suggests we will see an upgrade by the time the first race jumps at 12:27pm AEST. The rail will be out 2m for the entire circumference of the course.

Best Bet
Race 4 – Chezblack @ $4.20 Sportsbet

Shane Sigvart’s consistent mare has been very close to winning in both of her runs this time in and looks perfectly placed third up despite the rise in class. Chezblack has carried 59kg in both runs and drops back to the minimum weight of 54kg while keeping Justin Stanley aboard. Drawn barrier five, she is likely to flop out the back and fly home. There should be plenty of speed injected with Let’s Cheer Again, Volum and Mad Irish Tycoon likely to press on from their suitable barriers. The tempo should suit Chezblack and allow her to finish over the top of them at start number 14.

Next Best
Race 7 – King Klaus @ $2 Sportsbet

King Klaus has kicked off his racing career in impressive fashion, winning at Gladstone and Bundaberg along with two other placings on the Sunshine Coast when only narrowly beaten in Class 1 races. Beau Appo should give the Love Conquers All gelding every chance from barrier 13 and look to make every post a winner. The five-year-old won by 8.75 lengths over 1000m on debut and troumphed at Benchmark 60 level last start by 2.25 lengths over 850m on the dirt at Bundy. While King Klaus will have to go to another level tomorrow if he is to win over 1100m at Rocky, his two placings on the Sunshine Coast bode well. If he finds the front and can see out the trip, he will take some serious catching.

Best Value
Race 6 – Bat A Kat @ $6.50 Sportsbet

We gave this galloper a great chance in the Mackay Newmarket 10 days ago and he was slightly disappointing, finishing 11th of 14. He sat just off a hot pace, shot through on the fence and loomed as a winning chance before fading in the final 200m to be beaten 2.8 lengths, although he was less than a length off fourth place. He is likely to push forward from the wide barrier with Ash Butler, who rode the gelding to victory first up, and sit outside Ten Taubada’s, who should lead from barrier two. The 60kg for Bat A Kat is a slight worry, but we believe he has the class to win this under the big weight.
