What Rockhampton Races
Where Callaghan Park – Reaney Street, Rockhampton QLD 4701
When Tuesday, June 1, 2021
First Race 12:55pm AEST

Rockhampton will host a competitive nine-race card on Tuesday afternoon for the first day of winter. The rail is out +6m for the entire course and the track is rated a Good 4, which should make for a wonderful afternoon’s racing. HorseBetting.com.au’s Queensland form analyst brings you his best bets, value pick and quaddie numbers for the Rocky meeting, which is due to begin at 12:55pm AEST.

Best Bet: Hezhome

Craig Smith’s Hezhome ran a slashing second in the Amateur’s Bracelet last start over this track and distance, finishing just three-quarters of a length off Last Chance. The son of Better Than Ready now drops back to Class 6 company and gets in with only 56.5kg after Dan McGillivray’s claim. Drawn beautifully in barrier two, the four-year-old gelding can settle in the first half of the field and get a lovely run in transit before being presented for one final crack at them. Hezhome should be rock-hard fit now at his sixth run into the campaign, and off his last start effort, he should relish the drop in grade. Srini will be hard to beat but always runs better second-up and will be spotting the leaders a fair start.

Best BetRace 6 – Hezhome (#2) $3 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Yuan Fen

Olivia Cairns may have only had Yuan Fen in her stable for a month, but the travel costs from Swan Hill to Mackay have already been paid for as this gelding broke through in style at Mackay last time out. The son of Artie Schiller went north after placing third to Saint Of Katowice and put his rivals to the sword over 1100m in maiden grade at Mackay on May 21st. The three-year-old will appreciate the big Rockhampton track, and with Adam Sewell on from barrier three, he should get the gun run. Up to 1200m will suit this galloper too.

Next BestRace 7 – Yuan Fen (#10) $5.50 with Sportsbet

One to Watch: Gypsy Toff

This race is an absolute cracker over the 1050m journey. While we could name six of the eight runners as winning chances, one who caught our attention is Gypsy Toff. Previously trained by Tom Button on the Sunshine Coast, this daughter of Toorak Toff returns to where she started her career and joins the Jamie McConachy stable. The five-year-old mare has won five of her seven starts here at Rockhampton, with all of those coming over the 1050m journey. Last campaign she finished fourth, beaten only 1.1 lengths at Doomben in the Listed Tatts Classic behind Niedorp, which is exceptional form for a race like this. Drawn on the rails, Alisha Ross will boot her through to box seat behind Lepreezy. If class prevails, Gypsy Toff can win this and go on to bigger and better things this campaign.

One To WatchRace 5 – Gypsy Toff (#1) $5.50 with Sportsbet
