What Rockhampton Races
Where Rockhampton Jockey Club – Callaghan Park, Reaney St, Rockhampton 4701 QLD
When Tuesday, May 25, 2021
First Race 12:42pm AEST

Rockhampton’s Callaghan Park will host seven provincial races on Tuesday, May 25th from 12:42pm AEST. The Beef Capital has turned the weather on for the racing this week with a Good 4 surface and fine conditions. The rail is out 6m for the entire course, so we will be looking for those runners who can dictate terms on the speed. HorseBetting.com.au brings you the best bets and a quaddie play for the afternoon.

Best Bet: Stubai

Ricky Vale’s four-year-old gelding Stubai is a real up-and-comer in the Central Queensland middle distance ranks. The son of Medaglia D’Oro has won five of his last 11 starts, including a dominant first-up win over the 1400m trip at this track. The go-forward horse was sent around as a $2.50 favourite last start in the Rocky Amateur’s Cup, a key lead-up to the Rockhampton Cup in July, and while he had plenty of weight relief, he was just slightly outclassed to run fourth behind quality horses Factory Warrior, Mr Phenomenal and The Tax Accountant. Dropping back to a weak Benchmark 65, Stubai will have to lug around the monster weight of 63kg. Ryan Wiggins will do the steering, and from barrier one it should be a straightforward push for the front. The big weight is a concern, but the cream should rise to the top.

Best BetRace 2 – Stubai (#1) $2.05 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Auxin

Auxin has been doing everything right of late, winning twice and filling the minor placings on three occasions in his last five starts. The son of Exceed And Excel comes off a win at Mackay last start where he beat subsequent winner The Egyptian by 0.2 lengths. The four-year-old rises slightly in trip from 1000m to the 1050m course, where he was narrowly beaten in a Class 5 by Tru Blu Tango two starts back. Micheal Hellyer will do the steering from barrier three, and although the 60kg is a big ask, the field is fairly well compressed. The form around Auxin has been terrific this campaign, so we expect the Chris Attard-trained gelding to be right in the finish again in this Class 4 Plate.

Next BestRace 3 – Auxin (#1) $2.70 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Fly For Yulong

While Stubai came through the Amateur’s Cup, Jared Wehlow’s Fly For Yulong comes through the Amateur’s Bracelet. The well-travelled seven-year-old began his career in Ireland, winning races at Galway and Dundalk, before coming to Australia and placing at Flemington and Morphettville. Since joining the Wehlow stable at Rockhampton, the son of Shamardal has won two races by big spaces and finished a narrow third at Townsville in the Coral Coast Cup. First-up, the big grey was only four lengths off Last Chance, which is terrific form, and although Flying Crackerjak finished three lengths ahead of Fly For Yulong, the latter receives a great pull in the weights and should be much fitter second-up and out to the 1400m journey. Matt McGillivray will look to be positive from gate three, which can be a winning move in this Class 6.

Best ValueRace 7 – Fly For Yulong (#6) $6 with Sportsbet
