The Easter Monday meeting in the South Island is being held at Riverton and will be day two of their meet with a number of horses backing up from Saturday. The track is likely to remain heavy for the nine race card which kicks off at 11.07am (NZDT)
Best Bet at Riverton – She’s A Con
It is pretty hard to see She’s A Con being beaten today. She went huge in the Southland Guineas at Listed level two starts back when making up late ground and finishing sixth and then should have won her last start but again after getting back she just couldn’t get there, settling for second place. She has everything in her favour today and even her wide draw is a plus on what is likely to be a rough second day surface at Riverton. So bearing that in mind she should snare a much deserved win today.

Doringo was on the ballot for the first day and missed a gut buster so should have the freshness edge on most of his rivals in this. He worked hard last start to find the front and was then given no peace after getting there, in fact he ran the fastest half on the day so it is no wonder he gave way late in the home straight. That was his best recent effort and it would have given him the confidence he needs to be hard to beat today.

Best Value At Riverton – Poniard
Poniard had his first run in six weeks last start and after making a brief dab around them before the turn he blew out and did well to battle on into fifth place and then subsequently promoted to fourth place. He will improve immensely with that effort under his belt and is also well placed at the weights. He loses nothing with Tina Comignaghi stepping into the irons and is likely to be some decent each-way value.
