Sea Shepherd won his last start in very fortunate circumstances after being promoted when the jockey of the first past the post failed to weigh in. He has always promised a lot and should be in for a good winter. He benefits from a 3kg claim on Saturday and will also be at his peak fitness. He is the best rated horse in this field and hopefully won’t have to rely on an enquiry to win come Saturday.

Next Best at Riverton – Benaud
The good stake money on offer at Riverton always attracts those bigger stables from further North in the South island and this is no exception with the Pitmans entering a large team. They produce our next best bet in Benaud who will be peaking third up after two solid performances at Riccarton to open this campaign. He thrives on a heavy track and over the 1200 metre trip. He is set to put his hoof in the till at Riverton on Saturday.

Best Value at Riverton – Tavi With Me
One of the features of the day is the Riverton Cup over 2147m and in it we have the value bet of the day in Tavi With Me. She was set too big of a task at Riccarton last time out and though she battled on gamely she was never a winning hope at any stage of the race. She is facing quite a sharp rise in class today but the expected very heavy track should even the race out. She has proven herself in such conditions and won’t lack fitness. With a more positive ride early and of course some luck she could pick this race off at big each way odds.
