Ringo’s A Rockstar makes it three in a row

Apprentice Josh Oliver put aside a grilling in the stewards room to produce a fine ride to win on Ringo’s A Rockstar at Doomben on Saturday.

Stewards had Oliver and another apprentice Bridget Grylls in the stewards room to question their rides on Black Jag and Ranked who finished last and second last in the previous race the Open (2200m).

Ranked and Black Jag opened a big margin on the rest of the field before fading badly in the straight.

After taking initial evidence, stewards adjourned the inquiry and Oliver came out to steer Ringo’s A Rockstar ($2.20) to win the Three Year Old Hcp (1200m).

It was Ringo’s A Rockstar’s third win in a row for 85-year-old trainer Norm Stephens.

“He has won two in town now to go with his win at the Sunshine Coast. And I reckon he will win a few more,” Stephens said.

“They always say having a good horse keeps you young and I reckon you are right.”

Stephens has had a hand with Ringo’s A Rockstar as his family and friends bred the horse when they sent their mare Cradle Rock to sire Drumbeats.

Oliver said Ringo’s A Rockstar was able to sit behind the pace to then produce a big sprint in the straight.
