The South Island meeting on the weekend in New Zealand is being held at Riccarton with eight races carded and the first kicks off at midday on a soft track that may deteriorate with rain forecast in the days leading up.
Best Bet at Riccarton – Proserve
Proserve has not had the best of luck recently and was desperately unlucky at Riverton over the mile two starts back before battling on strongly for fourth here last time out, where he wasn’t in the best part of the track. The 2000 metres will suit him right down to the ground and he should be able to get out wide coming into the home straight. From there, should be able to sustain a long run to the finish. He is hard and fit and in what is a useful field, he should be able to grind out a deserved win.

Next Best at Riccarton – Divine Sara
The feature of the day is the Open 1400 metres worth 65K and for our next best bet is Divine Sara who will also be at a bit of value such is the evenness of the field. Her last two efforts have been in some decent fields and she hasn’t had the rub of the green in either of them. She put together a brace of wins prior to those two runs and looks well placed dropping back to the 1400 metres on Saturday. The key today is drawing out wide where most horses will be scouting and she should be able to take a sit out there without doing any early work. She has a big finish when ridden quietly and could have the last say here.

Best Value at Riccarton – Santissima
The last of the day provides the value bet of the day near the bottom of the page in Santissima. We are predicting that it will come down to the survival of the fittest by this time of the day and this mare hasn’t missed many weekends in the last couple of months. She is drawn in the right part of the track for this time of the day and in this grade she is more that capable of holding her own. If the breaks come her way, she is up to winning a race like this.
