Saturday racing in the South Island of New Zealand is being held at Riccarton, where the track is currently Heavy but could improve as there is no rain forecast in the days leading up to the meeting. The feature is the Breeders Stakes over a mile for fillies and mares at Group 3 level.
Best Bet at Riccarton – The Buffer
One of the days features is the Hororata Gold Cup and it is where we find the best bet of the day in The Buffer. He has the top weight of 59kg after the apprentice claim but is only 5kg above the minimum. He came with a well timed run to beat a handy field over 1400m last time out which was a nice blow out in the lead up to this race over a more suitable distance. The improving track conditions will also be in his favour and he is set to complete the hat-trick.

Take That made a bold return to the race track with a fast finishing third on this track fresh up. He is over a month between runs so will have no problem staying at the mile for this assignment. His form says he is best on a firmer track but he has showed some ability on a wet track in the past and won’t be using track conditions as an excuse on Saturday. He should get a soft run from his handy draw and he should be at some each-way value.

Best Value at Riccarton – Tavi With Me
Tavi With Me didn’t take ling to find form since arriving in the South Island with a comfortable win two starts back and then hitting the front a long way out last time out and only getting run down late into second place. She thrives on a wet track and is at a good place in the weights. With a touch more patience from her jockey, she is capable of going one better today.
