What Randwick Races
Where Royal Randwick Racecourse – Alison Rd, Randwick NSW 2031
When Saturday, December 18, 2021
First Race 12:20pm AEDT

HorseBetting’s New South Wales form analyst has studied the 10-race card at Royal Randwick this Saturday and picked out his top tips and quaddie selections for the afternoon. The track is rated a Soft 5 and the rail is out 3m for the entire course. The first race of the day is set to jump at 12:20pm AEDT, with the last due to go at 5:55pm.

Randwick Best Bet – Francesco Guardi

Chris Waller and James McDonald combine in the first leg of the quaddie with promising four-year-old Francesco Guardi. The son of Frankel is yet to win in his four Australian starts, but he has been a narrow runner-up in his two most recent runs at Rosehill Gardens. The former international now rises an extra 100m out to the mile and gets onto Randwick, which is a track where it can be easier to make ground than at Rosehill, so those two minor changes should prove instrumental in his bid to win. McDonald retains the ride after he just missed a fortnight ago, so he will no doubt be trying to go one better, while the horse is going to get a lovely run in transit despite having drawn barrier eight.

Next Best at Randwick – Starman

Given the quality of cattle they have, this might be one of those days where Chris Waller and James McDonald dominate the program. In the second race, the pair combine with last-start winner Starman in a 1400m Handicap restricted to three- and four-year-olds. The son of Zoustar was savaging the line at the end of 1200m on December 4, indicating to us that he will appreciate every bit of 1400m, although he does meet stablemate Sacrimony 1.5kg worse off at the weights, which will make for an interesting battle. Waller saddles up five horses in this and McDonald has elected to stick with Starman, so we are happy to stay with the three-year-old too as he looks to book his spot on the float to the Gold Coast for the Magic Millions.

Next BestRace 2 – Starman (#5) $3 with Sportsbet

Randwick Value Bet – Gee Tee Tee

We have a love affair with Queensland-trained horses, but given the form that Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted are in, it’s hard to ignore Gee Tee Tee in the penultimate race of the day. The six-year-old son of Written Tycoon impressed when first-up with a fast-finishing win at the Sunshine Coast over 1200m on November 20. The six-time winner goes from a Class 6 to a Benchmark 88, and while the handicapper has given him an extra kilogram for his troubles, apprentice jockey Tyler Schiller’s 3kg claim means he will only have to lug 56.5kg on Saturday. Drawn in the middle of the line in barrier seven, Gee Tee Tee can get a great run behind the speed and then let down strongly late to claim the prize. He’s been overlooked by the market.

Best ValueRace 9 – Gee Tee Tee (#1) $9 with Sportsbet
