Metropolitan racing heads to Royal Randwick on Wednesday afternoon for a quickfire seven-race program on the Kensington circuit. The rail is out +5m for the meeting, and with mostly sunny skies forecast in the lead-up, it should be a Good 4 surface for the majority of the afternoon. The first race is set to get underway at 2pm AEDT.
Best Bet: Princess Mary
Princess Mary has had two starts for as many minor placings to her name and was unfortunate not to snag a win at Kembla Grange on April 26 before heading to the paddock. The daughter of Dissident was hampered badly in that run, and you can easily argue the protest should’ve been upheld. It wasn’t to be, but with two strong barrier trials under her belt, we think Princess Mary can bounce back at a nice price with the top online bookmakers.

Next Best: Avebury
Avebury has mixed her form since returning on August 2 with a disappointing effort at Randwick. The four-year-old then went back to the trials to get her mind back on the job, and it seemingly did the trick as the mare performed admirably at Warwick Farm on August 20. She was only beaten by a head on a track providing significant on-speed favours, and now with James McDonald booked to ride from barrier three, we think Avebury can go one better on Wednesday.

Next Best Again: Stromboli
Stromboli was a terrific winner on resumption at the Kensington track on August 2 and subsequently measured up well in Saturday company behind Garza Blanca on September 2. Team Hawkes has been keeping the five-year-old fresh with a month between runs, and it seems to have unlocked the best of this gelding by Exceed And Excel. He draws to get a lovely run just in behind the speed, and with the claim of apprentice jockey Jett Stanley giving relief in the weights, we’re confident Stromboli can find career win number five.
