Randwick-Kensington horse racing preview – February 3, 2021
The Randwick-Kensington track will play host to the seven races on Wednesday for New South Wales’ metropolitan midweek meeting. The track is a Soft 6 and the rail has been moved out +3m for the entire circumference of the course. Race 1 is set to jump at 2:20pm local time.
Best Bet: Mossman Gorge
Matthew Dale’s Mossman Gorge was a good thing beaten a fortnight ago at Canterbury, so connections and punters alike will be hopeful that the six-year-old can go one better here under Hugh Bowman. The Mossman gelding loves this track, with two wins and two minor placings coming from nine starts here, and the 1000m journey is right up his alley. Bad luck should be out of the equation from barrier eight as long as he isn’t posted deep throughout. If the cream rises to the top like it should, Mossman Gorge will win this.
Race 6 – Mossman Gorge (#1)Next Best: Flexible
We like to see three-year-olds taking on the older horses from time to time, and this looks one who is ready. James Cummings-trained filly Flexible was a dominant maiden winner at Warwick Farm last start over 1200m on a Heavy 9 track in what was a decent race, and she has been subsequently thrown into the deep end here over 1400m at Benchmark 72 grade. She has had just the three starts compared to her nine opponents’ combined total of 184 runs, so she is certainly the inexperienced one in the field, but Cummings is a smart trainer and wouldn’t put her here if she wasn’t a winning chance.
