What Kensington Races
Where Royal Randwick Racecourse – Alison Rd, Randwick NSW 2031
When Wednesday, September 1, 2021
First Race 1:25pm AEST

HorseBetting’s Sydney form analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for the seven-race card on the Kensington track at Randwick on Wednesday. The track is rated a Soft 6, the rail is out 3m for the entire course, and the first race is set to jump at 1:25pm AEST.

Kensington Best Bet: Profondo

Richard Litt spent big at the yearling sales, paying $1.9 million on this colt by Deep Impact, and going off the four trials to date, it looks like he might have a good eye. Profondo ran fourth in his very first trial back in April and has only improved since, winning each of his next three including two earlier in the month. Robbie Dolan has ridden the horse in all four trials and has been rewarded with the ride on race day, so that connection should prove advantageous. Profondo showed some adaptability during his trials, so from barrier eight he should be in a competitive spot to be right in the finish. This one does hold nominations for the Caulfield Guineas, Golden Rose and Cox Plate, which shows just how big an opinion his trainer has of him.

Best BetRace 1 – Profondo (#6) $2.25 with Sportsbet

Next Best Bet at Kensington: Park Avenue

Richard & Michael Freedman have a pretty talented one here in Park Avenue, a winner of two races in just three career starts. The three-year-old son of Fastnet Rock just did enough on debut to win at Wyong on May 13, before going to town and winning by an even smaller margin at Randwick, defeating Winning Verse and Sacred Field. At the gelding’s next start, he finished third at Randwick behind Verne and In The Congo, with the latter a Group 3 winner in the San Domenico Stakes on Saturday when beating Paulele and Group 1-winning duo Stay Inside and Captivant, so the form stacks up. Drawn in barrier three, Park Avenue will settle in the first half of the field under Jean Van Overmeire and be attacking the line at the end of the 1300m.

Next BestRace 6 – Park Avenue (#11) $4.80 with Sportsbet

Next Best Again at Kensington: Sky Command

Three-year-old Sky Command looks to be a pretty smart galloper, winning her first two starts before pulling up lame in the Rosebud last time out behind Paulele and In The Congo – again, the quinella in Saturday’s San Domenico Stakes. The Gary Portelli-trained filly was brilliant on debut at Warwick Farm, leading all of the way to win by 2.5 lengths, before going to a Saturday race at Randwick to win by two lengths in the same style. The daughter of Deep Field led throughout last time but was pulled up by Brenton Avdulla when he felt her to be sore, so that can be forgiven. She has passed the vet check and is back at the track, so we are confident she can get back to her best on Wednesday. James McDonald takes over from the injured Avdulla and will send her forward from barrier 11 and be hard to beat.

Next Best AgainRace 7 – Sky Command (#8) $3.40 with Sportsbet
