Randwick-Kensington racing preview – February 17, 2021

Seven metropolitan races will be run and won at Randwick-Kensington on Wednesday afternoon. The track is currently a Soft 7 and the rail is out +5m for the entire circumference of the course. Race 1 is set to jump at 2:20pm local time with a 2YO Maiden to start the day.

Best Bet: Marway

Marway was our best of the night on Friday until he was scratched due to the wide alley, so here we are again. The ex-Central Queenslander proved his ability in his Sydney debut first up with a good rails-hugging win on Australia Day at Warwick Farm, and he is typically a horse who doesn’t fire fresh, so he is back in a big way. Now second up and staying at the 1000m, the son of Hemingway will show plenty of early speed to lead from gate two under Joshua Parr and should be hard to catch. He does have a big weight (60.5kg), but he is all heart. This looks an ideal set up.

Best BetRace 6 – Marway (#3) $3.50 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Harmony Rose

We hope Josh Parr and Mark Newnham can end the day with a race-to-race double when they partner up with Harmony Rose in the last race. The three-year-old filly looked Group class in her first two runs and then was beaten by an apparent leader’s bias at Warwick Farm when she missed by under half a length in her last run in November. She has had a trial since where she was victorious, and she now looks ready to win first up over 1400m in a Benchmark 72 for fillies and mares. Drawn well in gate five, she will be up handy to the speed and should prove a touch too classy for these. Fashchanel looks the only danger.

Next BestRace 7 – Harmony Rose (#4) $4.50 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Toscanini

Another who we tipped on Friday night before he was scratched in preference for this is the Maher & Eustace-trained Toscanini. After running second to The Elanora at Eagle Farm back in December in the Grand Prix over 2200m, the three-year-old Fastnet Rock colt should be nicely wound up from a good trial effort in the lead up. The 1800m should be ideal after a near two-month break as he should carry residual fitness. He has won first up before and the stable is flying lately, so he should get the job done.

Best ValueRace 3 – Toscanini (#3) $4.80 with Sportsbet
