Randwick Group 2 Premiere Stakes Horse Betting Tips & Preview

Classique Legend

The Group 2 Premiere Stakes has attracted a small but highly quality field for this 1200m affair at Randwick on Epsom Hcp Day, Saturday 3rd October 2020.

The top two in the horse betting odds market also sit at the top of The Everest markets in two weeks’ time in Nature Strip and Classique Legend; while the likes of Libertini, Standout and Fasika will be vying for one of the last remaining slots. Nature Strip will lead if he doesn’t bomb the start like he has in two recent trials, while Libertini will box seat and Classique Legend will let it all unfold in front of him.

Classique Legend looks one of the best bets of the day in our opinion. After blitzing the field in The Shorts when first-up, trainer Les Bridge compared him to his stable stars in Sir Dapper and Hot Danish which is a huge rap. He was held-up last start and had to check off heels but was simply too good still, so we expect him to be too good here against weaker opposition, outside of Nature Strip. Barrier seven gives Kerrin McEvoy plenty of options, which we expect will see him settle in the first half of the field and stalk the favourite. We are very keen on the grey here.

Libertini looks primed to pursue an Everest slot after two very likeable trials. Gerry Harvey came out and said last campaign that she just didn’t come on, so we are happy to put a pen through it and look more at her Spring campaign where she was highly competitive in the Coolmore Stud Stakes and was dominant against the other three-year-old fillies in the Silver Shadow and the Tea Rose. She loves Randwick, flies fresh and has the benefit of two trials to have her ready to go. Regan Bayliss will box seat from barrier four and hopefully utilise the mare’s ability to maintain a high cruising speed to stay in contact with Nature Strip. She looks the value.

On his day, he is the best sprinter in the country, if not on the planet, but his days are few and far between. The Everest favourite, Nature Strip admittedly gets better as his prep goes on, but he was a sitting duck first up, threw the rider in a trial since and bombed the start at his most recent trial, so we are going to put our heads on the chopping block and say he can’t win. If he misses the kick here, it is game over. He’ll over-race and lack the turn of foot of Classique Legend to go with him. Alternatively, if he jumps well and leads, we doubt he’ll get it all his own way and crumble under the pressure. $1.75 is way too short in our opinion, so he is our lay of the day.
