The Queensland Guineas is a Group 2 race for three-year-olds, run over 1600m under set weights by the Brisbane Racing Club.
First staged in 1896, the Queensland Guineas is a key feature of Queensland’s winter carnival, traditionally run at Eagle Farm, with occasional transfers to Doomben during renovations.
Initially held in early May, the Queensland Guineas shifted to June in 2006 but moved back to April/May for the 2024 edition, offering $350,000 in prizemoney.
The Queensland Guineas held Group 3 status from 1979 until 1988 before being promoted to Group 2.
The Queensland Guineas/Queensland Derby double was once a common achievement, most recently completed by Kovalica in 2023.
The 2025 Queensland Guineas was won by Depth Of Character, defeating Churchill’s Choice and Beau Dazzler.
Notable past winners include Triscay, Paris Lane, Yippyio, Sizzling, Kolding, Private Eye, Kovalica, and Camarena.

- Depth Of Character produced a career-best performance to take out the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) at Eagle Farm, handing trainers Annabel and Rob Archibald a major milestone victory. With regular riders unavailable, in-form jockey Noel Callow made the most of a sliding-doors moment, guiding the $7.50 chance to a dominant win. Callow allowed the three-year-old to find his rhythm early before improving under his own steam into the straight. Asked for an effort at the 200m, Depth Of Character surged clear to win by 2.4 lengths. Churchill’s Choice boxed on for second, while Beau Dazzler rattled home into third at big odds.
- Kintyre left no doubt about his class with a determined win in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) at Eagle Farm. Fresh off a Group 3 victory in the stewards’ room, the Gary Portelli-trained gelding produced a tough performance under a smart ride from apprentice Cejay Graham. Settling in the box seat from barrier two, Kintyre travelled sweetly before launching his bid at the top of the straight. He outdueled Razors in a tight finish, with Press Link running on for third. Saturday’s win pushed Kintyre’s earnings past $700,000, with connections now weighing up a Queensland Derby tilt.
- Kovalica confirmed his standing as a leading Queensland Derby contender with a brilliant victory in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) at Eagle Farm. Trained by Chris Waller and ridden by Nash Rawiller, the son of Ocean Park settled three-wide with cover after jumping well, before unleashing a devastating sprint in the straight. Rawiller, fresh off a win aboard Rothfire in the Victory Stakes, timed his run perfectly as Kovalica surged over the top to claim victory in the final 50 metres. The $2.40 favourite added to his impressive resume, further strengthening his Derby claims.
- Character returned to winning form with a strong performance in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) at Eagle Farm. Trained by James Cummings, the son of Teofilo rebounded from a disappointing Australian Derby run to defeat New Zealand raider Dark Destroyer by three-quarters of a length. Sent out a $5 chance with online bookmakers, Character travelled well throughout and kicked clear late, while Coastwatch, backed into $5.50, finished fourth.
