Quaddie tips & free bets for Thursday, May 18 races at Pakenham

quaddie tips
OUR weekly Thursday quaddie returns to the outskirts of Melbourne as Pakenham Racecourse hosts an interesting eight-race card.

We’re looking to generate a dividend under the floodlights this weekend after a disappointing set of results last week.

We are spreading our net a little wider this week after getting burnt by some in-form runners, and we are confident we will deliver a dividend for our HorseBetting.com.au readers.

Race five on the Pakenham card is the Backcare & Seating benchmark 64, which kicks off the quaddie at 8pm.

Race 5 – Backcare & Seating BM64 (1600m)

Phoenix Park is looking to return to form after a poor showing on the heavy track at Flemington three-weeks-ago. Prior to the dead-last finish at racing headquarters in Melbourne the mare had won three of four races. We are expecting a firmer track at Pakenham which will aid the four-year-old greatly.

Eolande three-weeks-ago failed under in-form jockey Beau Mertens at Geelong but prior to that had not missed a placing in three starts. The experienced four-year-old has previously placed at this distance and should be right in the finish after a short freshen up.

Race 6 – Black Leopard Skincare BM70 (1000m)

Believing is third up on Thursday where it has previously placed in the past, and is looking to make it two wins from three starts. The gelding has only missed the placings once in its career over the 1000m distance and should be right in the finish.

Miss Gidget is racing in spectacular form and will be hard hold out on Thursday. The mare has finished third in three straight races and is looking to maintain a sparkling sprint record which has seen the four-year-old place or win over half of its 12 starts at 1000m.

Big Reel is resuming after a five month break, and has previously won twice and placed a further two times over five preparations. Over 13 starts at the 1000m distance the five-year-old has won five times and looks well placed to replicate those feats from barrier one.

Race 7 – R&C Asphalt BM64 (1200m)

Jocasta is a hugely consistent type that can suffer from tardy beginnings. Despite sometimes missing the kick the Corstens-trained mare knows how to find the line, as evidenced by its record of eight placings from nine starts. If it can jump with them on Thursday its going to be hard to beat.

Educate was scratched last week but gets its chance on Thursday to back up the brilliant maiden performance at Pakenham on April 20. The trainer is optimistic that this horse can become a star of the future and we are backing his judgement in.

Three-year-old gelding Carraig Aonair is only lightly raced but has shown plenty of promise in its five start career to date. The Hayes and Daberning runner has never missed the quinella position over the 1200m journey. Drawing barrier nine will not concern the speedy beginner, which will also have gun jockey Regan Bayliss piloting.

Race 8 – Sportsbet Racing Form BM64 (1400m)

Magwitch is looking to go one better from its three-straight second placings. Last time out the five-year-old finished within a head of the leader and the form points towards a win being just around the corner.

Critical Rhythm is looking to make it three wins from four races on Thursday. The classy gelding took out a class one two-weeks-ago at Geelong in stylish fashion and looks to be a progressive type. Will be hard to hold out despite carrying top weight.

Ayda is third up on Thursday where it has previously placed in the past. The mare finished third of seven runners last time out even after an awkward jump and never quite settling in the run. Any type of balanced effort will see this talented four-year-old feature in the finish.
