Quaddie tips for Thursday, July 13 races at Grafton

quaddie of the week
THIS week’s quaddie sees us traveling to the Queensland and New South Wales border a day after the Origin decider for a huge day of racing at Grafton.

Unless the state line gets torn apart following game three between the Maroons and the Blues, the Grafton Cup will take place in what is typically a sensational day of winter racing.

Last week’s quaddie at Bendigo on Friday was a true heartbreaker for the team at HorseBetting.com.au.

You would not wish the results on your worst enemy after we got one winner and three second placings from the last four races on the card in country Victoria.

We move on quickly though, and after spending days on the form, we believe we have unlocked the formula to generate a nice dividend for our loyal readers.

Race five on the card is the NBN Springboard To Fame 2YO over the 1200m distance, which kicks off the quaddie at 2.50pm.

Race 5 – NBN Springboard To Fame 2YO (1200m)

Imperial Eagle is chasing a hattrick on Thursday and all things equal it will be completing it easily, but we all know horse racing does not work like that. However, the gelding has two wins from a pair of starts at this distance, and the horse has only missed the placings once in its five start career.

The next best horse in the field is Pricing Power, which is seeking back-to-back wins for the first time in its ten race career. The filly boxed on well last start to win as a short priced favourite and gets a 2kg relief in the weights from the main market elect.

Hard to see any other horse in the field troubling this pair in the opening leg of the quaddie.

Race 6 – Earthmoving Equip.Aust. C6 (1200m)

Topweight Epic Dan is a horse that usually does not win out of turn, but the four-year-old’s first up performance at Dubbo could be indicative of a strong upcoming preparation after winning by just under two lengths. A win on Thursday would help the gelding maintain a strong winning percentage which will extend to 33 percent in victory.

Fashion Model returns after a five month spell, but prior to being turned out the four-year-old was in glittering form. The mare had finished in the placings in five straight races, winning three of those races. The first up record of just one placing from four attempts is a slight concern, but the horse has the class to be taking this out.

Johnny Ge is a dual acceptor, which may run on Wednesday at Canterbury, but if it takes to the track on Thursday it is a huge chance. The horse has missed the placings just once in its career and has won four of six races. At its best the gelding blows this field away.

To cover ourselves incase Johnny Ge does not run on Thursday we are inserting the hattrick-seeking Termele into our calculations. The mare’s last start win at Grafton was sparkling and a record of two wins and one placing from seven runs suggests the distance will be no issue.

Race 7 – Grafton Cup (2350m)

The feature race on the card is the most difficult on the day to predict, but a quartet of runners stand out from the pack.

Get On The Grange is one of the older horses in the field on Thursday, but as in any sport, experience counts for everything. The gelding won by just under a length at Doomben in a benchmark 80 on the weekend which is an impressive lead in to this race. The only concern for us is the short turn around, but it is more than capable of taking this out.

Waterhouse and Bott runner Supply And Demand is the $3.30 favourite at Crownbet.com.au to take out the Cup, and the lightly raced but highly credentialed four-year-old is expected to go very close. A win on Thursday would be the horse’s fourth-straight victory.

The Chris Waller trained Montauk has been racing impressively without getting the judges nod in recent races. The horse has not won since February but has missed the first four just once in eight subsequent races. Since returning in May the the four-year-old has been steadily improving and looks set for a big run.

War Baby will more than likely jump as a double figure outsider in this race, but it has legitimate winning claims. The five-year-old has not missed a placing across its last four runs and will come into Thursday after a two-week let up. We are expecting a huge run from the Hickmott galloper.

Race 8 – Sir James Kirby Quality (1000m)

There is only three single figure runners in the final race on the Grafton Cup card, which happen to be our top-three elects.

I Am Gypsy resumes after a 61 day let up. Prior to the spell the Matthew Dale runner had been racing in much stiffer company than this. The five-year-old has taken out races of this quality before and will be right in the mix at the post.

Badajoz is the best bet in the race. The Godolphin runner is the clear $2.75 favourite at Ladbrokes.com.au and is seeking a second consecutive victory. The gelding has a 77 percent place rate and has not finished outside the top-two in 2017. The four-year-old will be going close once again.

Lady Jetsetter comes into the race off the back of a three month break, and it has shown in the past it can race well fresh. The mare trialed well at Doomben at the tail end of June and has the capacity to step up and win first up after doing so twice from six attempts in the past.

We are throwing in Lucky Meteor to round our selections out, which is currently at a mammoth price.  However, those odds belie just how capable this horse really is.

The six-year-old has missing the placings just once in its last four races and has won five times across this distance. It also has a terrific record at Grafton, which has seen it win four times and place a further two across six attempts.
